A SOUTH Lakeland air squadron has thanked their local rotary club for their helping them recover from the December floods.

The Kendal Air Training Corps have thanked the Rotary Club for funding, which they have been able to use to buy equipment to continue their activities.

The donation was used to purchase a gazebo, first aid equipment, tables and display equipment to both assist the squadron activities and promote their visibility at public appearances.

Following Storm Desmond, Rotary District of Cumbria and Lancashire have been distributing funds allocated by Rotary Clubs nationally to make money available to local community groups.

So far seven community groups have benefited from grants, and 1127(Kendal) Air Training Corps were one of the groups to receive funding to help them restore themselves after the floods.

Kendal Air Cadets, which currently have approximately 45 Cadets, have only recently been able to move back to their headquarters on Queen Katherine Street, and have purchased a new minibus to replace the one written off after the floods.

The staff and cadets of the 1127(Kendal) Air Training Corps, alongside the Commanding Flying Officer Tim Corry, Chairman of the Civilian Committee Jeremy Cowan welcomed their benefiters and displayed the gazebo before its first official outing.

Their guests, Air Commodore Peter Smith Retired, the President of the Cumbria & Lancashire Rotary Club and his colleagues, Mr Tim Keegan and Mr Stan O'Connor, a former 1127 Cadet, were thanked for their funding.

“I would like to thank the Rotary Club very much for their support and funding, as with anyone else who has supported us in the past and continues to do so,” Sally Jefferys, the secretary of the civilian committee, said.

“It means a great deal that with funds raised we are able to support ongoing activities for the Cadets, activities that include flying, adventure training, shooting, sports and training, parade, drill and music.”

The squadron always welcomes new members, parading two nights a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 7pm to 9.30pm.

Anyone interested in joining can contact the squadron on 01539 739734 or 1127@aircadets.org.
