KENDAL Town picked up a 1-1 draw against high-flying Trafford on Saturday at the Pye-Motors Stadium as both teams saw goals disallowed by the referee.

Danny Forbes' well-taken goal after half an hour brought the Mintcakes level after Ashley Woods' opener had put the visitors ahead early on in the first half.

The game had plenty of key moments, most notably in the first half when Trafford keeper Terry Smith was fortunate to stay on the pitch when he felled Matthew Dudley on the edge of the penalty area. However referee Craig Buxton waved play on to the amazement of everyone in the ground.

Buxton also ruled out a goal for the visitors midway through the second half when the ball was adjudged to have not crossed the line, while Kendal's Dudley also had a goal chalked off for offside in what proved to be a busy afternoon for the match officials.

Kendal on the back of two straight defeats over the festive and New Year period made a slow start, as Trafford dominated the opening twenty minutes.

The Manchester side who sit third in the table almost went 1-0 up as early as the fourth minute when Jack Dorney's powerful drive on goal was pushed away by Will Kitchen. Kitchen was on hand again to deny Woods before Dorney fired wide from close range.

Trafford continued to create opportunities and again went close as Mark Derbyshire couldn't keep his free header below the bar.

However Trafford opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Woods slotted the ball home from close range after being left unmarked in the box.

Kendal equalised against the run of play in the 32nd minute when Forbes' angled shot on goal fell into the back of the net.

The goal gave Kendal a lift, while Trafford keeper Smith should have been shown a red card for upending Dudley just outside the box.

Kendal almost went 2-1 in front just before half time only for Matt Poole's effort on goal to be blocked by the visitors.

In the second half the fog descended over The Pye Motors Stadium as Kendal made a bright start without creating any real opportunities on goal while various free kicks and set pieces tested the visitors' resolve.

Matthew Dudley created a half chance for the Mintcakes but his header at goal was well taken by Smith, while Kitchen in the Kendal goal cleared a variety of corners before Trafford substitute Aaron Burns toe poked the ball wide of the right hand post.

Kendal defend well to clear Dorney's effort off the goal line while Woods was denied a second of the afternoon by a goalline clearance.

With both sides battling it out in difficult conditions Kendal’s Dudley saw his goal ruled out for offside, before Dudley headed wide late on while further free kicks and corners into the box were well taken by the Trafford keeper as the game ended all square.
