ORGANISERS of the popular Kendal Festival of Food have announced the event will not return in 2017 after its 'biggest a most action-pack' running in 2016.

Instead, festival chiefs have said they have started working closely with funding partners and sponsors to develop plans for its return in 2018.

The Kendal Festival of Food has become an established highlight on the national food and drink calendar, showcasing the north of England's finest producers and culinary talent.

Festival organiser Cath Dutton said: "Each year generating the budget needed to deliver the festival has been increasingly challenging. Nevertheless, the event has grown year on year, and we’re tremendously proud that it now attracts over 32,000 visitors and has a significant impact on the town’s economy with the total economic impact of the 2016 Kendal Food Festival is estimated at just over £1.5 million.

“It wasn’t an easy decision to postpone this year’s festival, but we’re keen to review the event structure and generate fresh ideas to ensure it can become a sustainable model that is around for visitors to enjoy for many more years to come.”
