IN celebration of the release of their sixth album, UK rock band The Brew are touring the country, bringing their acclaimed live act to Cumbria.

The Grimsby-based band, which features Jason Barwick on guitar and vocals, Tim Smith on bass and vocals and Kurtis Smith on drums and vocals, will play shows at The Platform in Morecambe in February 5 and The Old Fire Station in Carlisle on February 11.

A three-piece renowned for their energetic, tight live performances, the band released album number six, titled ‘Shake The Tree’, last year.

It was all recorded live in the studio, with no tracks or tapes, and continues on in this sense from their previous album ‘Control’, which came out in 2014.

Bassist Tim Smith said: “The last album was a great success for us in Europe and we wanted to continue with that very energetic raw feel.

“We wanted to capture the spirit of the band. We have a reputation for our live performance so to go into the studio and record using tapes and tracks always felt very unnatural.

“It is called ‘Shake The Tree’ because trees are rooted in the ground. The adage goes that if you shake the tree you shake the roots and the foundations of everything around you. It’s about getting hold of everything you are happy with and shaking it up and changing things.”

‘Shake The Tree’ sees The Brew focus on their most energetic, riff driven music, with all traces of acoustic music that featured on their previous album removed. The big sound pushes the expectations of music produced by a trio to the limit.

The Brew toured Europe throughout the end of 2016, and will start their UK tour at the end of January. Following that they will travel back out to Europe.

Ideas for a seventh album are already coming, however the band’s main focus at the moment is the promotion of ‘Shake The Tree’. Videos for songs from the band’s sixth album are due out this year.

Tim added: “We left it quite a long time between the last album and this one, so we’re looking to get another album out within the next 18 months.”
