A LAKELAND company famed for its savoury sauces, chutneys and preserves has a sweet surprise in store for customers.

Hawkshead Relish is launching three new handmade, luxury dessert spreads under the distinctive name Mudd - salted chocolate, chocolate honey and salted banoffee.

These indulgent treats have been created by Mark Whitehead, co-owner of the award-winning family business, based in Hawkshead.

"We couldn’t call these luxurious treats 'spread'," said Maria Whitehead, Mark's wife and co-director. "It didn’t do them justice and show them to be of optimum quality. Mudd just seemed to fit and, as with everything we like to do here at Hawkshead Relish, it adds a little fun."

Salted Chocolate Mudd combines 100 per cent cocoa with fresh cream, pure golden syrup, farmhouse butter and Anglesey sea salt; Chocolate Honey Mudd blends 100 per cent cocoa with farmhouse butter and English heather honey; while Salted Banoffee Mudd features fresh bananas, double cream and a twist of Anglesey sea salt.

The creations go perfectly with waffles, pancakes, ice cream, croissants, toast and crumpets, and can also be added to recipes.

"I love to experiment with flavour combinations," said Mark, who is described as the mastermind behind Hawkshead Relish's range. "The essence of these all-natural ingredients has the ability to create exquisite flavour combinations when they are perfectly balanced."

Hawkshead Relish's artisan range of jams, chutneys, mustards, sauces, savoury jellies and mayonnaise have won more than 50 Great Taste Awards and earned the company the title of speciality producer from the Guild of Fine Food.

Small batches are cooked in open pans by the team, and each product is made without artificial colourings, flavourings or preservatives, as well as being gluten and nut-free and suitable for vegetarians.

The range is said to have a "discerning following from celebrity chefs to royalty".

Orders are now being taken for the new Mudd range to secure early deliveries. To find out more and view the full range, visit www.hawksheadrelish.com
