KESWICK secured a vital win over second-placed Appleby to cement their spot at the top of the Westmorland League Division One.

A lot of the teams did well to play after overnight frost hit the region where just three games were postponed mainly in division two and division three.

Both sides went into the crunch match on a good run of form, however Keswick's strength proved too much for the hosts as the prolific Richard Bannister and Jamie Little scored the crucial goals that saw the league leaders go ten points clear at the top.

Pirelli climbed up to third in the table following a hard fought 4-2 win over Ambleside United. Pirelli have now won their fourth straight game as the Carlisle-based team continue to impress in what is their first season in Division One.

Matt Kennedy’s hat trick eased Kendal United to a comfortable 9-1 win at Burneside, while Louis Renvoise scored a hat trick for Wetheriggs United who defeated Kirkoswald 6-0.

Braithwaite pulled off the surprise of the season as they picked up a 3-2 win over Westmorland League Division Two leaders Endmoor KGR. Charlie Andrews opened the scoring for the ninth-placed side on the stroke of half time, before second half goals by Jack Farley and Sam Robinson saw Braithwaite go 3-0 ahead. Endmoor battled back through Joe Wharton and Nathan Dixon, however Braithwaite held on to complete the upset.

In the other games, Castletown United defeated Kendal United Reserves 2-1 at Castle Drive. In a controversial game Kendal United saw two players sent off while a Castletown player was also shown a red card, before the visiting manager was also dismissed by the referee. Larry Hand opened the scoring for Castletown at the start of the second half, however Kendal United equalised midway through the game before Tyler Boyes scored the winner after 89 minutes as Castletown celebrated a crucial win.

Carleton Banks picked up a 4-1 in over Wetherigg United Reserves, Staveley United routed Langwathby United 5-0, while Windermere Reserves and Ullswater United battled out a 1-1 draw.

In Westmorland League Division Three AFC Carlisle climbed three points clear at the top after a 2-1 win over second placed Appleby Reserves.

Four goals by Scott O Callaghan helped Endmoor KGR Reserves to a comfortable 9-0 win over Penrith Town, Burneside Reserves defeated Kirkoswald Reserve 3-2, while goals by Dan Jones, Joe Carradus, Charlie Tomlinson and Josh Ford eased Ibis Reserve to a 4-1 win at Lunesdale United.
