A KENDAL teenager has been sentenced for a string of crimes he committed after his relationship ended.

Carlisle Crown Court heard 18-year-old Fletcher Leon Cannon pinned ex-girlfriend Alice Sagar up against a door at her home after they broke up, telling her: "I will smash your teeth in."

He then smashed a window and later that day braked suddenly in front of her car, bumping her vehicle with his, as the pair travelled between Arnside and Kendal. Months later, as Cannon prepared to face a court trial, he asked Miss Sagar to change her police witness statement.

Cannon was sentenced at the crown court for four offences. He admitted common assault, damaging property, dangerous driving and doing acts intended to pervert the course of justice.

Cannon was described as "remorseful", viewing two-and-a-half months he had spent in custody since November as a "wake-up call".

Having considered mitigation, Recorder Abigail Hudson suspended 10 months' youth detention for 18 months.

Cannon, of Castle Riggs, Kendal, must complete 100 hours' unpaid work, a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and a "building better relationships" course.

In addition, the teenager was banned from driving for 12 months, and must take an extended re-test.
