A STELLAR line-up of big-name acts will be performing at Cumbria's largest music festival this summer.

The Manic Street Preachers, Franz Ferdinand, Stereophonics and Brian Wilson, of the Beach Boys, are among the names already announced for this year's Kendal Calling.

Following another sell-out year in 2016, the festival will return with its largest line-up yet, having boosted the number of headliners to six.

The impressive list of artists will be accompanied by the festival's usual eclectic selection of comedy, cinema, family entertainment, food and drink.

Kendal Calling founder Andy Smith said: "Drastic times call for drastic measures and to that end we’ve gone the whole nine yards! We're excited to be welcoming no less than six headliners to the fields this year, including Brian Wilson’s last appearance on these shores as he performs Pet Sounds in full."

No stranger to the fields, having played a rip-roaring headlining set at the festival in 2014, Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls will be returning to co-headline in 2017.

Forever on the road all across the world and a prolific songwriter, his music has garnered him legions of fans in the UK and beyond.

With multiple Brit Awards, arena tours and festival headline slots under his belt, as well as having more UK number ones than any other rapper on the planet, Tinie Tempah is more than qualified to top the bill at this year’s Kendal Calling.

Joining the headliners are the likes of singer-songwriter Jake Bugg, bluesman Seasick Steve, Scottish favourites Frightened Rabbit, Field Music, The Coral, Editors, Kate Nash and Slaves.

Current sensation Loyle Carner will also feature, as will grime stalwart Lethal Bizzle. DJ sets will be provided by the likes of Jungle and Mike Skinner, formerly of The Streets.

Commenting on their headline set, Richard Jones of the Stereophonics said: "We’ve been fortunate to headline and play at some amazing festivals over the years and it’s an honour to play at Kendal Calling this summer a first for us in the Lake District. See you there!"

Frightened Rabbit also expressed excitement on returning to the festival, saying: "We are really pleased to be returning to Kendal Calling this year. Last time was easily the muddiest yet one of the best festivals we've had the privilege of playing."

Having once again won ‘Best Medium Festival’ at the UK Festival Awards, Kendal Calling has firmly established itself as one of the undisputed highlights of the increasingly busy summer calendar.
