These photographs of a Great White Egret on the Kendal/Lancaster Canal near Burton-in-Kendal were taken by Westmorland Gazette reader Roger Gorman.
"I took them while walking with friends from Crooklands to Tewitfield on Wednesday, 1st February 1," said Mr Gorman a retired teacher from Endmoor.
"I'm not a 'twitcher' but I believe that sightings of this rather beautiful bird, sometimes called the white heron, are quite rare in England."
