AN ACCIDENTAL hob fire caused significant damage to a kitchen at a house in the hamlet of Barrows Green, near Kendal.
Three fire engines from Kendal went to the blaze at the two-storey house at 6.50am this morning.
The occupants were all accounted for after being alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm, said a Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.
Crews, using four wearing breathing apparatus, battled the fire with one hose reel jet and a large fan.
Nobody was injured.
"It is a reminder that having a working smoke alarm on each floor of the house is important," said the spokesperson. "If they had not had a smoke alarm it could have been a lot worse."
