A SOUTH Lakeland man has been sentenced for child porn crimes which came to light as he travelled from the UK to Canada.

Carlisle Crown Court heard how 59-year-old Carlton Robert Taylor was stopped as he arrived at Calgary airport in October, 2015.

Taylor, of Romney Road, Kendal, was in possession of almost 50 electronic devices including computers, USB sticks and 19 mobile phones.

But suspicions were raised as he had little money and other belongings with him.

Analysis of two laptops showed the existence of 14 illegal still and moving images. Six were classed in category A - the most serious.

Taylor pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, and admitted one charge of possessing the illicit material.

At the crown court today (Monday), an eight-month prison sentence was suspended for two years by Recorder Michael Murray.

Recorder Murray imposed a 20-day rehabilitation requirement and a three-month night-time curfew. He concluded this was the most appropriate means of punishing the defendant and assisting society.

Taylor must also sign the sex offenders' register and was made subject to the terms of a sexual harm prevention order - both for an indefinite period.
