A BRAND new play by BAFTA award-winning playwright John Godber, The Empty Nesters' Club, visits The Forum, Barrow-in-Furness, as part of a UK tour. The story depicts a humorous yet poignant look at the pain of the 'empty nest' and what befalls parents after the children leave the family home, especially mums who has to let-go of her not-so-little-children! KENDAL Arts Community is showing its latest exhibition of works at Ruskins Cafe & Bar, at Smokehouse Lane, Kendal. The co-operative's thought-provoking theme is 'Phobias' - a compelling title which offers each artist the opportunity to challenge themselves and interpret apropos. KAC has more than 100 members and covers all abilities and areas of art, including painters, sculptors, musicians, poets and photographers. The exhibitions runs until April 11. GRANGE & District Amateur Operatic Society is to perform Rodgers & Hammerstein’s thrilling musical South Pacific. Set in Bali Hai amid the pizzazz of native and French girls, marines, sailors and seebees (US Construction Battalions), who decide - There’s Nothing Like A Dame. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Cable (Simon McCleery) uses the mellow timbre of his tenor voice to tell of his true love in Younger Than Spring Time. And flustered Nellie endeavours to Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair, but to no avail. GLORIATOR, a hilarious restaging of the Ridley Scott's Hollywood epic, Gladiator, and performed by the Spitz & Co comedy duo, Susie Donkin and Pauline Morel. The story follows Gloria Delaneuf who is well-versed in mime, mask, and the mysteries of stagecraft. Her tour manager, Josephine Cunningham, is not. Together they create Gloriator, an awe-inspiring production of bravery, honour, and costumes made out of cardboard. Russell Crowe may not be available, but they are determined it will be a show you'll never forget. AFTERNOON Tea with Words and Songs – a cosy and entertaining afternoon tea on Sunday (February 26, 2.30pm) in Eldroth Church, near Austwick, is promised and includes a wide ranging mix of words and songs as writer, Veronica Caperon from Lawkland, launches her debut collection of poetry - Two Left Boots.
