A SOUTH Lakeland family of fryers has returned to wrapping up fish and chips in newsprint - and their customers' paper of choice is The Westmorland Gazette.

Farrah Sanbrook of the 'Fish over Chips' takeaway at Grange-over-Sands said: "The old dears love it when their chips are wrapped in newspaper, it brings back memories from the past

"We have received good feedback from both young and old. People claim the newspaper makes the chips taste better."

She and her family had been trying to bring back the tradition of wrapping up portions of fish and chips in newspapers but struggled to get hold of enough copies from outlets they tried.

But the solution came when Ms Sanbrook, who has been running the Grange chippie with her family for the past 16 years, visited the Gazette offices in Wainwright's Yard, Kendal, and was offered a supply of unsold papers.

She now visits the offices every fortnight to pick up left over papers in which to serve the business's much-loved takeaway food.

"There is going to be quite a few trips ahead," said Ms Sanbrook. "We go through them really quickly. People love it."

The takeaway, located at the heart of the community on Kents Bank Road, enjoys a steady stream of customers throughout the year including local residents and tourists, and wants to be more involved with community activities.

"The shop is located at a sea-side setting so fish and chips are definitely part of it," Ms Sanbrook said. "We want to serve our community, and are looking for local charities to get involved with."

"We are a very close-knit team. We value good customer service, and I think the customers can see that everybody works together in our team."
