A COUPLE became disoriented due to poor weather while walking at Coniston Old Man on yesterday afternoon.

The weather was described as 'cloudy and wet with very poor visibility' by the Coniston Mountain Rescue Team members.

The man and a woman had ascended the Old Man of Coniston and believed they had followed the ridge along to Swirl How.

Coniston MRT were called out to rescue the couple at 3.05pm.

Sarloc (a system for locating people by their mobile phone) was used to locate them.

They had inadvertently descended the Old Man to Goats Hawse and got lost on the lower slopes between Buck Pike and Dow Crag.
