CHILDREN from Crosthwaite Primary School visited the newly-opened Gilpin Spice restaurant near Levens.
The children have been learning about the spice trade and its impact and influence on Cumbrian foods.
Chefs at the restaurant have used the spices as inspiration for their menus and children were given the opportunity to taste some of the food they produce.
They also learnt about photography from Freda and Denis Hocking, who take landscape pictures from travels all over the world. They currently have an exhibition running at the hotel.
