Two teenage boys have been sentenced for offences that took place at a Barrow football match last year.

The 15-year-old and a 16-year-old boys appeared at Furness and District Youth Court on Friday and were both given five-year football banning orders.

The sentence follows an incident after the Barrow against York City match on Saturday, 24 September, when the boys threw rocks at minibuses transporting York City fans away from the game.
The 15-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of assault ABH and criminal damage, and was also given a youth rehabilitation order alongside the football ban.

The 16-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of assault ABH and two counts of criminal damage. He was handed a referral order with his football ban.

Inspector Gareth Jesson said: “We welcome the sentencing decision from the court, which supports the lengthy and detailed investigation carried out by officers. This was a particularly cowardly attack on innocent victims, and it is no stretch to say that we could have been looking at fatalities.
