A KENDAL woman has more than doubled her target in a fundraising triathlon she completed at Kendal Leisure Centre.

Katy Oliver, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour two years ago and suffered a stroke shortly afterwards, undertook the challenge to raise money for Rosemere Cancer Trust, who 'gave her life back'.

Katy's achievement raised £1,309.25 for the charity, and boosted her own self esteem along the way.

She said: "It was the best Valentine's Day I've ever had! I know that sounds like a funny thing to say but it did me a world of good.

"Everybody really enjoyed it. It went really well right until the end.

"Following this I want to work with children who have been ill and who love sport. I want to instil into them the idea that if you love your sport it can give you hope and helps you recover from illness and grief.

"I want to tell people about my ordeal and how I coped with it using sport."

Due to Katy's ongoing illness, the triathlon was completed inside. It included a 400 metre swim, a 20 kilometre cycle and a 16 kilometre walk and run.
