ALL the world is a stage for a team of street dancers who met with success against big city teams in a regional competition.

Three different age groups from Carnforth-based Jennifer's Dancers school earned enough points in the United Dance Organisation (UDO) North West Street competition in Blackpool to allow them to compete in the European, World and Six Nations championships.

Jennifer Mayor, 31, who also runs classes in Kendal, Milnthorpe and Morecambe, said that since the school started competing in street dancing 15 months ago more than 30 trophies had been won.

"I'm very proud of my students," said Ms Mayor. "After the latest competition their confidence has just soared.

"I am determined to spread the word about street dance in this area. It's not just something that's done in big cities.

"Street dancing fits into this area. I think that often the best street dancers actually come from quiet villages.

"You might not think that dancers from smaller communities could compete against people who have been raised in big cities, but in competitions they find that they can hold their own and be very successful."

Ms Mayor, who started the dance school ten years ago, said. "It's all about kids having fun and learning something different they don't get to experience anywhere else around here."

Jennifer's Dancers will be holding a showcase on March 25 and 26 at the Grand Theatre in Lancaster.

Tickets are available from the theatre box office.
