A FORMER Kendal girl is returning to the town to raise money for clean water in Kenya.

Beth Stretton-Platt, 22, hopes her charity evening at the Castle Green Hotel will boost the profile of Dig Deep, a small organisation that has so far provided 25,000 people in rural schools and communities with better sanitation.

Beth, who grew up in Ravenstonedale and lived in Kendal for nearly 13 years, is studying performing arts at the University of Winchester.

In September she is to take part in Dig Deep's charity expedition to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, and she told the Gazette: "Having been brought up in the Lake District and returning there frequently to see family and friends, climbing has always been a massive passion of mine. So to be able to combine that with such an amazing charitable cause is an incredible opportunity."

Beth is offering free entry to her charity event on Saturday, April 15, from 7pm, to encourage as many people as possible to attend. There will be a family quiz, games, auction, live music from acoustic artist Luke Rainsford and a DJ. For more about the charity, visit www.digdeep.org.uk
