The issued warning follows misleading leaflets adveritising funding for roof repairs for those in receipt of benefits being distributed to residents in Ulverston.

Cumbria Trading Standards warn that consumers should be extremely cautious when approached by any cold callers offering to conduct work on their property.

MORE TOP STORIES:

These types of callers often use persuasive tactics such as free surveys and the offer of grants to get people to agree to have work carried out, often charging high prices for poor quality work and goods.

In most cases traders who call at your home should give a cooling off period which gives 14 days in which to cancel (there are some exceptions).

Trading Standards advice is to always say ‘NO’ to any cold callers, shop around for quotes, check to see if grants are available and consider using a local trader who has been recommended by others.
