A FAMILY of walkers were assisted by rescuers on Friday afternoon after their chosen route to Blencathra was too challenging.
The family had tried to climb the mountain by an unusual route, via the steep side of Gategill Fell.
After running into snow cover, they found that the route was very slippery, and a bit beyond them.

They were pinpointed with a SARLOC signal, and the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team sent out a small group to assist them if necessary.
It was suggested that if they were to carefully retrace their steps, they would come on to easier ground.
The walkers managed to do this, and four team members met up with them just above the stream junction below Middle Tongue.
They were then escorted down to the foot of the fell.
The callout took over 90 minutes from ten team members.
