FOR one night only, staff at a South Lakeland pub will be trading their roles in order to raise money for local charities.

Chefs at the Hare & Hounds Inn, Levens, will be taking the orders while the front of house staff will be in the kitchen, whipping up some of the venue's most popular dishes.

The 'Back to Front' evening will encourage diners to pay whatever they think the waiters' cooked meals are worth, with all the proceeds being split between the North West Ambulance charity and Westmorland Red Squirrels.

"It was something that sounded really fun for us and for the people visiting," Becky Dewar, owner of the Hare & Hounds said. "We will learn something from it as well as the fact that people will find it quite funny."

The front of house staff will be cooking most of the menu, only leaving a few dishes off to ensure that food still arrives to customers in a timely manner.

"We have quite a comprehensive menu," Becky said. "We want to test ourselves, we do not want to make it silly easy - but there is a limit!"

The Hare & Hounds specialises in pizzas and burgers but in the past four years the menu has widened to include more classic English pub meals.

"I am very much a home cook rather than a chef," Becky explained. "Myself and the two managers will come up with a speciality so we can show off something that we like - although I think my speciality will be a ham and cheese sandwich!"

She added that she thought it would be good for the kitchen staff to experience a change of scenery, too.

"They do not normally have to talk to people! I think for them it will be challenging but fun," she said. "Coming out into the environment that we are in every night. Up in the kitchen they never experience that and I think they will really enjoy it.

"We are a team here. We do not have a division between kitchen and front of house and hopefully this will really cement that."

The evening will run from 5-9pm on March 3. Booking is essential as there are only a limited number of places available.
