A TEAM of Lake District women celebrated two records when they pulled a car to the top of Kirkstone Pass during last year's annual strength-sapping event.
For not only did they manage to beat the time record for the arduous three-mile, 1,500 ft haul up the windy hill that leads from Ambleside but they also raised the most money for charity in the 40-year history of the event. The ladies completed the challenge in a highly creditable one hour, two minutes and 45 seconds.
And they presented a cheque for £5,300 to staff at the Grizedale Chemotherapy Unit at the Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal. It will go towards providing state-of-the-art reclining chairs for patients undergoing chemotherapy.
