Move over iPhone, out of the way Samsung - old is the new 'new'.

The return of retro technology in the form of Nokia's 3310 mobile phone has got a lot of people pretty excited.

Technology show Mobile Congress opened in Barcelona yesterday and some of the biggest names at the event have been offering early looks at what smartphones will look like in 2017.

The most anticipated and excitedly received announcement at this year's came from Nokia - reborn this year with the news it was releasing a revamped version of its classic 3310 mobile phone, first seen in 2000.

The 3310 now has a camera and a colour screen but otherwise remains the simple device it was in its original form - including a version of popular mobile game Snake built in.

Remember the unalderated joy of playing Snake hour after hour? Remember 'that' ring tone? Remember when your battery would last longer than a morning?

Here we look at five of the classic designs that changed the world of phones forever - and one or two that didn't.

Scroll through the pictures above.

1. Nokia 6110 - Arguably the phone that started it all - and the first to have Snake!

2. Motorola 'Razr' - Very flat, very cool, and very black.

3. Sony Ericsson T68 - one of the first colour screens with a camera - but one you had to plug in!

4. Nokia 7280 - Just plain weird, and not a lot of good as a phone either. But at least it looked quirky.

5. iPhone - 2007 was the year that changed it all. Admittedly, the first one wasn't very good, but the only way has been up for Apple since.

Perhaps you still have one of these design classics in a drawer? If so, send a picture of you with it to andrew.thomas@kendal.newsquest.co.uk!

Westmorland Gazette reader Dick Unsworth, of Ingleton Pottery, sent two pictures of his old Nokia mobile phones.

Mr Unsworth said: "The big “Brick” is a Nokia 1610, really ancient, but still works!

"The rest of them were simply chucked into a drawer as I went more and more modern, but they all still work perfectly.

"I sent three of the old model 3310 phones to my mate Jagath Panditha in Sri Lanka for his kids, who are now proudly displaying them to their schoolmates in Hikkaduwa School with Dialog SIM cards in them.

"I currently have a Samsung Galaxy J5 to use for data and as a camera, but prefer to use my old Nokia model 201with it’s seven-day battery and “proper buttons” to make calls.

"I remember when it were all fields round here, and bacon tasted of bacon!"
