WORN-out sections of the carriageway at Kendal's Asda roundabout, on the A65 Burton Road, are to be replaced with a brand new surface later this month.

The work will be carried out by Cumbria County Council contractors over two weekends. It will start over the weekend of Saturday March 11 and Sunday March 12, from 4pm to 1am each day.

The work will then be suspended and will restart from 4pm to 1am on Saturday March 18 and is scheduled to be completed on Sunday March 19, subject to weather conditions.

In order to accommodate plant and machinery, and ensure the works can be safely carried out, traffic controls will be in place. Traffic will be managed using temporary lights when possible and a full road closure when necessary.

A signed diversion via Oxenholme Road and Oxenholme village will be in place and access for Natland Mill Beck Lane will be via Natland Road. Signs advising that businesses are open as normal will also be displayed. Access will also be maintained for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists.

A spokesperson for the county council said the local authority will be working with its contractor to ensure the work is completed as soon as possible. He added that there will inevitably be some disruption and drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.
