Kendal Rugby Development 38 v 3 Sedgley Park

KENDAL Rugby's development team booked their place in the final of the Brooke Edgley Specialist Technical Trophy after a comprehensive win over Sedgley Park on a wet Saturday afternoon at Mint Bridge.

Rob Quarry's team played with plenty of class and determination against a resilient Sedgley side who played their part under difficult conditions

Kendal scored the first points after just five minutes when a quick exchange of passes sent through James Thompson who crashed over the try line. Nathan Woof's successful conversion saw Kendal go 7-0 up.

The visitors hit back and gained crucial metres down field before being awarded a penalty which was successfully converted.

Kendal stepped up their play and added to the score line after Woof worked his way through some poor tackling by the visitors before the fly-half stepped inside and placed the ball over the line.

Woof converted his own try as Kendal raced into a steady 14-3 lead. The hosts added to the score line when Willy Hintz crashed over to put Kendal 20-3 ahead.

Kendal had further opportunities to score however the conditions made it difficult to retain possession while they also had a try ruled out for a knock on.

After a short half time team talk, Kendal added more points on the board when Hintz capitalised on some weak tackling before finishing in the corner.

Kendal played with confidence while Richard Harryman made a number of powerful drives through the visitor's defence.

The home side added further points through Alistair Thompsons try and Woof's conversion before the kicker scored his second try after 60 minutes, which he also converted in the final score of the game.

Kendal will now play Northwich's second team in the final on May 6 at Wirral Rugby Union Club's ground.

Quarry told the Gazette: “I am so proud of the lads, they deserve a lot of praise and credit for that performance, they are one of the hardest working groups I have had the pleasure to work with.

"The players' dedication in training is paying dividends for the season we are having. Two training sessions a week as well as early morning gym sessions have certainly laid the foundations for our current form. We look forward to the final while our aim is to remain on top in our league.”
