FAMILY of a man who died after his mobility scooter overturned in Grasmere on Thursday have paid tribute to him today.

Roy Formby, 87, a retired art dealer from Grasmere, is described as a 'gentleman – polite, courteous and dignified', who loved the Lake District and the outdoors.

When walking became difficult, he enjoyed riding on his specially adapted up-hill mobility scooter.

Mr Formby was out with his nephew when the incident happened on Red Bank Road at around 4pm on March 23.

He was airlifted to hospital but died later in the evening.

Mr Formby's family member said: "Roy was blessed with a keen sense of humour and sheer determination which was reflected by his positive outlook throughout life.

"He was a cherished, loyal and devoted husband, a much-loved uncle, great uncle and a friend to many. Roy will be sadly missed by all who knew him."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact PC 2210 Sophie Edmondson of the Mobile Support Group at Kendal on 101.
