TODAY Cumbria Police have started recruiting new police community support officers (PCSOs).

The Constabulary is seeking dedicated, committed and intelligent individuals interested in improving their local community.

PCSOs are uniformed staff who support the work of police officers within the community, often focusing on issues such as antisocial behaviour and public reassurance.

Chief Superintendent Mark Pannone said: “Police Community Support Officers carry out a vital role in the Constabulary. It is a uniquely interesting and rewarding position which is well-suited to people who have a genuine interest in working hard to improve the community.

“Ideal applicants will be out-going and able to work closely with police officers and partners to overcome problems.

“It is a challenging role where no two days will ever be the same. But if you are looking for a career change where you can really make a difference, this may well be the job for you.”

The position of Police Community Support Officer is varied and responsibilities can include:
• Contributing to improving local communities
• Dealing with antisocial behaviour
• Assisting with a missing person
• Helping to support victims
• Assisting with house-to-house enquiries
• Support police officers
• Involvement in patrolling major public events and ceremonials
