KIRKBY Lonsdale skipper Ben Walker has issued a rallying cry to his team of champions by saying he wants this squad to become 'history makers'.

The North One West title is already secure, but Walker has another target in sight – to win every single league fixture.

It's a case of so far, so good. Saturday's 46-13 win over Altrincham Kersal was their 23rd win in a faultless campaign. But three more games yet stand in the way of that unprecedented success.

"We've got this objective – we want to go the whole season winning every game," he said, "we want to be history makers.

"We don't want to be another team that wins the league and in a few years you've forgotten about it. We have a special brand of rugby that we're playing and I really think together we can achieve greatness."

No one would begrudge Kirkby celebrating their league title in boozy style, and that's exactly what they did following victory over Eccles. But without resting on their laurels, they came back to action on Saturday and put away a spirited Altrincham side with seven tries. The 13 points Kersal scored were the first to go past Kirkby since mid February.

"After we beat Eccles we had a pretty big night but after that it's been business as usual," added Walker. "It will be like that until we've played Blackburn and if we carry on this run that will be the day for celebration."

Kirkby's next outing is a home tie with Birkenhead Park. The Merseysiders, second in the league, still have a job on their hands to secure their play-off spot, a fact not overlooked by the Kirkby captain.

He said: "It's a funny one. They need two wins with a bonus point to secure second. They might not have us down as a bonus point team but they will certainly come here looking to upset the party so we've got to make sure we do our jobs.

"Come Saturday we will be switched on and ready to go to get the win we want to get us to 26."
