CONSTRUCTION work on a new bridge in Staveley has reached a key milestone today with the installation of concrete bridge beams on site.

Specialist heavy lifting plant and equipment is being employed to install the concrete beams, which will form the foundations of the new structure.

Installation is scheduled to be completed tomorrow morning. Work will then start on the carriageway and bridge parapets. Construction work on the bridge is on schedule to be completed on May 16.

Cumbria County Council is investing approximately £500,000 in the Staveley bridge replacement project, which forms part of the county council’s overall £120m infrastructure recovery programme to repair damage caused during last winter’s floods. A total of £25 million is being invested in 2016/17 to repair over 350 roads and bridges, including Gowan Old Bridge in Staveley.
