STUDENTS from Hameln College in Kendal's twin town of Rinteln are spending three weeks in South Lakeland.

The students Leon Schubert, Sebastian Schmidt and Gerrit Klenke are attending both catering and restaurant management courses at Kendal College.

Funded by Eramus Plus European money, the students are learning English ways of cooking and getting used to English recipes.

As trainee chefs they will be able to use some of their newly-learnt skills in hotels in Germany.

At weekends the students have been able to get out and about. They have visited local restaurants and have given a “thumbs up” to fish and chips.

Also funded by the Erasmus scheme is student Jana Heltner. She is spending three weeks at the Whinfell Office Skills Project in Kendal.

Jana is training to become a social care worker for adults with learning difficulties. During her stay in Kendal Jana is looking to see differences between her work experiences in Germany with those in England.

In her spare time she plans to go sightseeing and get to know a bit more about life in England.
