A BODY of a man was found in Lake District woods by a group of visiting walkers on Sunday (April 2).

The man was found in a wooded area adjacent to a bridleway, between Finsthwaite and Newby Bridge.

Police were alerted to the incident at 11.20am by the visiting walkers.

Cumbria Police, the North West Ambulance Service and 13 team members from Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team attended the scene.

A short time later the man was pronounced dead.

Detective Sergeant Michael Wallace of South Cumbria CID confirmed the man was at least 60-years-old and the circumstances of his death are currently unexplained. 

Cumbria Police are liaising with neighbouring forces in an effort to identify the male.

Police confirmed this morning (April 3) that the death was not being treated as suspicious.
