CARNFORTH'S Labour Party branch says it is working hard to "dispel the prevalent feeling that politics is irrelevant to our everyday lives".

Cllr John Reynolds, a Lancaster city councillor for Carnforth and Millhead, has held events at village halls in Over Kellet, Priest Hutton, Silverdale and Warton, to find out what local people are concerned about. He has also done walkabouts in villages including Arkholme.

Mr Reynolds said the meetings followed community activities by Carnforth Labour that had included litter picks, a monthly market stall and a meeting about the NHS attended by more than 100 people.

"I know that for many people politics has become a dirty word," he said, "but for us it is concerned with the state of our local services and the quality of life in the places we live."
