MOTOR fans have a treat in store when the Lakes Charity Classic Vehicle Show returns to Grasmere's Showfield this summer.

Attracting more than 300 vehicles from across the UK, the event on Sunday, June 18 looks set to feature classics from the BMW, Triumph and Morris Minor owners' clubs, as well as unusual exhibits such as a 1914 truck and steam-powered bus.

The volunteers of Windermere and Ambleside Lions Club organise the show each year for charity. Last year they raised more than £7,000 for South Lakeland Young Carers and Jigsaw Children's Hospice, Carlisle.

Over the years, more than £35,000 has been raised to help ten local good causes. This year's beneficiaries will be Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team and Blood Bikes Cumbria.

"We always want to help local charities, and we know these two both provide a vital service here in the Lake District," said Anthony Harrison, chair of the show's organising committee.

He is looking forward to displaying the 1954 AJS 350cc motorcycle that was a surprise Christmas gift from his wife, Christine. The couple both help to plan and arrange the show all year round.

"We would like to try and encourage more motorbikes, trucks and other vehicles," said Anthony. New members are also being encouraged to join the organising committee. For more details, visit www.lakesclassiccarshow.org.uk

The Showfield is just off the A591, at Stock Lane, Grasmere LA22 9SL.
