A SOUTH Lakeland primary school's Easter Fair raised more than £700 towards new equipment.

The fair at Dean Gibson Primary School, Kendal, was organised by the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association and included a tombola, bouncy castle, hot food and an Easter Bonnet Parade.

Children from reception to year six took part in the parade and the Deputy Mayor of Kendal, Cllr Andy Blackman and his wife, Sue, acted as judges.

"The bonnets all looked fabulous and it was obvious that a lot of imagination and hard work had been put in by the pupils," said Sarah Tansey, headteacher of Dean Gibson Primary School.

The fire service and police also visited and the children enjoyed exploring the fire engine and police car and speaking to the officers about their jobs.

"The PTFA is continually fundraising for the benefit of the pupils at the school," Mrs Tansey said. "At the moment the main focus is on raising funds to improve the playground area at the school."

A total of £720.99 was raised towards buying new educational and play equipment for the pupils.

"A big thank you must go out to the many local business who kindly donated raffle prizes and all who helped with the event," said Mrs Tansey.
