A competitor in a Lake District fell race has died after collapsing during the event.
The man, aged 37, who has not been named, was competing in the 3.5-mile Loughrigg Fell Race near Ambleside, which started at 7pm on Wednesday.
Nick Owen, of Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team, said attempts to resuscitate the runner by other athletes had been unsuccessful.
"One of the runners collapsed and unfortunately died as a result of that even though CPR was administered," he said.
"Ourselves and the Great North Air Ambulance went to try and resuscitate him and that was impossible.
"He was declared dead by the Great North Air Ambulance paramedic."
