I WRITE once more about our road surfaces, but this time to ask who decides what needs doing and where.
I live in Natland and when I drive round the green or on any of the roads out of the village I am imminent danger of losing my small car in any of the many potholes.
However, when I walk my daughter’s dog along the village’s beautifully resurfaced pavements, they are so smooth I could practically skate down them. This would not be at all dangerous as I scarcely meet anyone, which gives some idea of how heavily they are used, which is presumably why they needed resurfacing!
Long Meadow Lane, it seems, was also a priority and now has a surface almost as smooth as its pavements.
In these times when councils are making cuts, could somebody please explain to me why pavements and roads which were in good condition were resurfaced when we have to bounce our way round many of the county’s busier roads?
