A TALENTED 10-year-old linguist from South Lakeland has made it to the live grand final of a popular anagram game.

Freya Woodward, who attends Staveley CofE Primary School, is one of 12 who will head to London for the BANANAGRAMS Challenge.

The game has sold more than eight million copies worldwide and the national tournament saw Freya use her impressive word skills to outperform 50,000 other children.

Freya’s teacher, Louise Roberts, who oversaw the challenge at the school, said that the BANANAGRAMS club for years 4 and 5 had been a 'phenomenal success'.

"All of the children love the game and it has really helped to develop their spelling skills – every school should play it," she said. "We’re all absolutely thrilled that Freya made it to the grand final and the whole school is exceptionally proud of her achievement and wish her the very best of success at the London final."

Freya and her fellow finalists will spend April 29 at the Magic Circle, the world-famous magicians’ club in London.

The overall winner, who will be dubbed the 'Top Banana', will be presented with a specially-designed trophy and £1,000 for their school by Rena Nathanson, inventor of the anagram game.

Freya added that she was 'so excited' for the final that she thought everyone would be nervous but it would be the 'most fun ever'.
