TWO comics are coming to South Cumbria to raise money for refugees in Syria.

They will be appearing at Furness Refugee Support’s latest comedy night at the Laurel and Hardy Museum in Ulverston on May 19.

Comedian and writer Juliet Meyers has earned rave reviews with her chatty stand-up and gag driven storytelling. She writes for BBC2's Sarah Millican and topical news programmes such as Mock The Week, 8/10 Cats, Radio 4’s News Quiz and The Now Show.

She will be supported by comic Caroline Mabey whose show is billed as "a joyful, addled meander through self-help, holistic dance and learning to love the disappointment of being truly yourself.”

A spokesman for Furness Refugee Support said: “Once again we’ve managed to book two top female comedians who are performing their shows free, to raise money for the refugees.

“We’ve already sent £8,500 to Syria Relief – plus two articulated lorries and about six vans packed with donations - and the last comedy night raised £2,000, so we’re hoping to easily top the £10,000 mark with this one.

“As well as the comics, there’ll be a band, a raffle – with some great prizes – and our famous curry, a steal at only £3.50.

“We’re suggesting people pay £15 on the door – or what they can afford. Tickets can also be bought through the Laurel and Hardy Museum.

“And if you want to help out on the night, you can contact us on Facebook – Furness Refugee Support Volunteers.”
