The event is due to be held in the large cafe at Kendal College at Milnthorpe Road at Kendal.

Candidates will be answering questions from the audience and will have an opportunity to outline why they believe they are the right person to represent the constituency in Parliament after June 8.

The debate will be chaired by Andrew Thomas, editor of The Westmorland Gazette, who said: "This will be a great opportunity for local people to hear the views of the candidates and to help them make up their mind who to vote for on general election day.

"A similar event organised at the college by the Gazette in 2015 attracted 250 people and prompted a lively and fascinating debate. We're sure this year's debate will be just as interesting."

The exact date of the debate will be announced in the Gazette next week but it is likely to fall within the week commencing Monday, May 22.

The event will be timed for 6.30pm with the debate due to begin at 7.15pm. Entry will be free but will be by ticket only. Details of how to apply for tickets will appear in next week's The Westmorland Gazette.

* The Gazette would like to hear people's suggestions for questions to be put to the candidates.
