OUTLINE plans for up to 90 new homes on farmland at Halton village, in north Lancashire, have attracted 43 letters of objection.

Story Homes' proposals for three fields between Low Road and Forge Lane are to be considered by Lancaster City Council planners on Monday, May 8.

The planning and highways regulatory committee is recommended to approve the plans, which would include 40 per cent affordable homes.

Objectors say the new houses - a mix of two, three and four-bed detached, semi-detached and mews dwellings - are not needed and that building on green fields should be 'a last resort'.

Neighbours have also raised concerns about extra traffic, lack of bus services and overcrowding at local schools. They say the new Story Homes estate would increase Halton's housing by nearly ten per cent.

However, in a report, Lancaster City Council planning officers say the new affordable and market houses will contribute to a shortfall in homes across the district. The developer would also make a financial contribution to local education and public open space.

The May 8 meeting is to take place at Lancaster Town Hall, starting at 10.30am.
