WORK on a new 40-bedroom retirement home in Carnforth is beginning to take shape.

The UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone marked the start of construction at the Lancaster Road site with a visit from Morecambe and Lunesdale MP David Morris.

Mr Morris donned his hard hat and high vis jacket to lay a brick of the new development.

He was joined by McCarthy and Stone’s senior site manager, Chris Wylde, and took the opportunity to view the forthcoming plans for Keerford View.

Exclusively designed for those aged 60 and over, it is set to offer 40 one and two bedroom purpose-built, contemporary styled apartments.

Mr Morris said: “It was a pleasure to mark the start of construction at Keerford View and to find out more about how this exciting new development will continue to take shape and become an important landmark for local retirees.

“Enjoying an independent, active and secure lifestyle is incredibly important at any age, and it is fantastic to see the provision of retirement living apartments such as these in our local area. Keerford View will provide much needed choice for those who are looking to downsize to a more manageable property.”

Facilities at Keerford View will include a communal homeowners’ lounge, ideal for socialising with friends, maintained landscaped gardens and a guest suite for visiting friends and family to stay overnight. A dedicated House Manager will ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the development; and a security entrance system and 24 hour emergency call points will provide added peace of mind for homeowners and their family.

Fiona Brooks, regional marketing director for McCarthy and Stone North West, said: “Keerford View has been carefully designed to meet the needs of those in later life who are looking to downsize in style. Even at this early stage we have already received a significant level of interest from local retirees, with potential purchasers attracted to the low maintenance lifestyle on offer at our Retirement Living developments. We are urging anyone interested in securing one of these stunning apartments for themselves to register their interest soon to avoid disappointment.”

Keerford View backs onto Carnforth Cricket Club and is within walking distance of the town’s main amenities, including a Tesco supermarket just 800m away, and a Boots and Aldi within a mile.

The apartments are expected to be released for sale in autumn 2017 with an estimated move-in date of spring 2018.
