OUTLINE plans for up to 55 new homes on farmland at Natland, near Kendal, have been lodged with South Lakeland District Council.

Oakmere Homes, based in the village, is proposing up to 43 open-market dwellings and 12 social rented properties on land off Longmeadow Lane and Wandales Lane.

According to planning documents, the developer is prepared to give up to £250,000 to St Mark's CE Primary School for a new pre-school and nursery unit.

A landscaped area with play park and nature walk is also proposed alongside the new housing.

Two neighbouring households have objected to the plans. One told SLDC that village traffic was already 'horrendous', and the prospect of another 55 houses with an average of two cars each was 'unthinkable'.

The second said the proposals were 'contrary' to South Lakeland's Local Plan.
