THE family behind a successful Kendal cafe is hoping to impress customers with a new farmhouse inspired offering.

Tony Benton, director of Brew Brothers on Highgate, has opened The Farmhouse Kitchen, aiming to offer artisan, wholesome food.

"There will be a few similarities with Brew Brothers and The Farmhouse Kitchen obviously," Tony said. "But it's a separate brand, we've created a new brand. We didn't want it to be the same as Brew Brothers.

"We are trying to create another market for the lovely people of Kendal where they can come and relax and have some really good food. There are some quality offerings out there in Kendal and we'd like to be part of that offer."

On the menu will be jacket potatoes, sandwiches on thick farmhouse bread, homemade fish pies and Sri Lankan curries.

There will also be an extensive dessert menu as well as five or six different cakes available. Lavazza coffee will be on offer as well as tea and coffee from Atkinsons in Lancaster.

Tony described the menu as 'not expensive', offering 'good, wholesome, cooked food'.

"It's not an evening restaurant but there will be evening food served within the day," said Adam Benton, co-director of the new venture and a trained chef. "It's a cafe style restaurant."

"It's got a different feel to Brew Brothers," Tony added. "It's a totally different menu and the food although there will be some similarities there will be a lot of different things on the menu."

Inside the restaurant, interior design reflects the farmhouse theme with plenty of wood throughout, industrial lamps on the walls, and an AGA oven acts as a focal point.

And although Tony is keen to 'fine-tune' the new restaurant before starting on his next project, there are murmurings of a third business.

"There aren't many artisan cafes in Kendal. Brew Brothers is one, this will hopefully be the second and we don't know but there might be a third one on the cards," he said. "But we need to get this fine-tuned and ready for the people of Kendal."
