A BOY, thought to be just 13, is suspected of trying to exchange counterfeit currency in a Lake District town.

Cumbria Police are investigating reports of the attempted exchanges, in the Windermere area, having received several calls from shop owners on Wednesday, May 10. They said the young male was entering premises, selecting low-value goods, and attempting to pay with a fake £20 Scottish bank note.

Police are appealing for anyone who may be able to identify the suspect or provide further information.

He is described as white, aged around 13 years old, 5ft tall and of slim build. He had brown hair which was swept to one side, and spoke an Irish accent. He was wearing a grey tracksuit with black patches on the knees and elbows, and was carrying a small black bag.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Josh Jones on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
