PLANS to remove the ATM, safes, counters, signs and alarms from Ulverston's NatWest bank have been lodged by banking company RBS.

As reported by the Gazette, the Grade ll-listed branch at Queen Street is to close in late September, followed by NatWest banks in Grange-over-Sands, Ambleside and Settle in October. Carnforth, meanwhile, is to lose its NatWest in early June.

The company says the 'difficult decisions' have been made because of changing banking habits.

The limestone exterior of the Ulverston branch is to be 'made good' once signs have been removed, according to plans submitted to South Lakeland District Council.
