A FRESH bid to build new homes on land behind a Lune Valley pub look set for another knock-back.

Applicant Simon Nutter plans to construct three new dwellings and convert a barn at the rear of the former Dragons Head inn, at Whittington, near Kirkby Lonsdale.

Two planning applications were lodged with Lancaster City Council in 2016 and both were refused.

The plans will be considered for a third time by the planning and highways regulatory committee on Wednesday (May 31).

Whittington Parish Council supports the project, according to planning documents. The council has also received one letter of support, saying the scheme would bring low-cost housing to the village, and that re-opening the Dragons Head with a small shop would bring much-needed services to Whittington residents.

In their report, planning officers are recommending refusal. They say there is "no certainty" of the pub's re-opening, and there is not enough justification for four new homes on the site. They also say the converted barn would look "overly domestic" and an extension to the 19th century pub would not be in keeping.
