PLANS for a 54m x12m grain store on the Holker Estate have been lodged with South Lakeland District Council.

Grain from arable crops grown at Old Park Farm, Cark-in-Cartmel, would be stored there by applicant Vitagrass Farms, according to planning documents.

Soil quality at the farm has been improved over the past six years to increase crop productivity, and 2016 saw 1,000 tonnes of grain harvested. That is expected to rise to 1,400 tonnes in 2018, hence the need for extra storage.

Clad in green-coloured tin sheets, the new building would have galvanised steel shutter doors and a flat cement roof.
