A FASHION designer who grew up in the Lake District was responsible for the gown that Pippa Middleton wore on her wedding day.

Giles Deacon spent his formative years near Ullswater, with his parents involved in agriculture sales and floristry.

He is now one of the UK's top designers with a client list that includes famous names such as Kate Moss, Scarlett Johansson and Angelina Jolie.

The dress he designed for the Duchess of Cambridge's sister was a high neck, cap-sleeved ivory gown with a corseted bodice and bespoke lace detailing.

Rumours abounded in November last year that Mr Deacon could be the dress designer when he was spotted visiting Pippa Middleton at her home with what appeared to be a dress bag.

However, the bride had managed to keep her wedding gown a secret until she arrived. The bespoke gown was crafted to create the impression of being seamless.

Middleton married financier James Matthews, 41, at St Mark's Church, Englefield, Buckinghamshire.

The nuptials were witnessed by family, close friends and famous faces including tennis star Roger Federer and wife Mirka, celebrity Donna Air, Princess Eugenie, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

Also among the congregation at the 12th century church, was Pippa's uncle Gary Goldsmith and Lady Gabriella Windsor, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, but missing was Harry's US actress girlfriend Meghan Markle.
