A SCREENING of a new documentary which asks pressing questions about humanity's unsustainable lifestyles will be held at Kendal this week.

Sense and Sustainability considers the grave scale of human consumption and its impact on the environment.

Exploring factors such as population growth and environmental degradation, the film examines the perilous future of our finite-resourced planet Earth, and what we must do to preserve it.

The screening is hosted by South Cumbria group of Population Matters.

Nick Chetwood, co-ordinator of the Population Matters South Cumbria group, said: “This is a crucial film that we know people will find thought-provoking, enjoyable and challenging. Films like Sense and Sustainability are integral to raising awareness of the under-appreciated issue of population growth and its impact on sustainability.

"It’s a great opportunity for people to come together at a public screening like this and be able to debate its message with other members of the audience. We think it will be a really stimulating evening.”

Michael Connolly, director of the film, said: “We made this film to bring awareness that ‘it has never been a question of how many people the world can contain, but how many it can sustain.'

"Through this we believe that people will come to the conclusion that a species set on endless growth is unsustainable; and we hope that they will become more conscious of how they affect the world around them.”

The event will take place on Wednesday May 31 at 7.30pm at the Unitarian Chapel in Kendal.

The screening will be accompanied by a live Q&A with Mr Connolly.

Entry is free though donations towards the cost of hire of the room will be welcome.
